TMJ pain problems – Temporomandibular (jaw) Joint

Manolis is the designated TMJ Replacement Surgeon in North West London, offering comprehensive management for all maxillofacial and temporomandibular joint problems. This could be conservative, medical or surgical depending on the diagnosis. Most patients present with pain in and around the joint, the ear, the jaw or even with neck pain and headaches, or with clicks and noises in the jaw joints. A thorough consultation is required to determine the cause and as to whether the patient is best served medically or surgically.

Manolis offers the full scope of service in North and Central London for all salivary gland pathology of the head and neck, including oral, submandibular and parotid gland surgery. He has access to state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities, radiologists, pathologists and, of course, surgical expertise. Problems with salivary glands can be either due to a systemic medical problem, perhaps the medication the patient is taking, or a localised surgical problem such as a stone, stricture, tumour, underlying lymph gland and other lumps that may present in and around the salivary glands.
A great variety of problems can arise in the face, jaws, mouth, salivary glands, neck and thyroid that need differentiation and appropriate management. Again, Manolis will treat these with an integrated group of experts depending upon what the problem is. At the consultation phase he will advise the patient of the nature of the problem, order the appropriate investigations, and finally advise on the appropriate treatment options.
Manolis will manage the full range of mouth, mucosal and tongue problems that may require medical and not surgical treatment. Some of these problems are limited to the mouth and include conditions such as aphthous ulcers, lichen planus and fungal infections. Others involve both the mouth and other distant areas of the body such as endocrine glands, the cells in the blood stream, the bowels or the immune system. Examples of these are Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis, Pemphigus and Pemphigoid, various anaemias and many others. Sore mouth and sore tongue syndromes also present and need an examination to exclude any underlying systemic problems. These problems require investigation to exclude or to diagnose an underlying medical problem. Cross speciality referrals to other experts may therefore be required within London.
Manolis covers all injuries of the face, orbits, jaws, mouth, nose and teeth. He is part of the largest maxillofacial trauma service in North London at the Regional North West London Maxillofacial Unit in Northwick Park and St Mark’s Hospitals, serving a population of around 2 million, routinely taking referrals from all other hospitals in North West London, and beyond, including Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and also patients from overseas. Manolis also treats facial deformities secondary to previous trauma. These are both hard tissue (bone) problems and soft tissue problems, such as scars that may require scar revision surgery. He offers, not only excellent surgical expertise, but also excellent Intensive Care and theatre support and the latest radiographic and maxillofacial laboratory facilities.

Manolis treats the full range of skin cancers. If the patient presents concerning skin lesions, he would be glad to consult with a patient, with a view to possible biopsy & histopathological diagnosis and/or surgical removal. In terms of skin cancer, Manolis can deal with the management of Basal Cell Carcinomas (Rodent Ulcers), Squamous Cell Carcinomas and Melanomas of the head, face and neck. He can excise and reconstruct these with primary closure, skin grafts or flaps. He will also address other ‘lumps and bumps’ of the skin and head & neck that are not necessarily malignant (cancerous), but are still a concern, such as moles and sebaceous cysts.
